Want to keep your new hair colour looking fresh and vibrant for as long as possible? Read on and follow these simple tips—you won’t regret it! If you need help choosing the right products, just get in touch. We stock some amazing options that will help you maintain your colour beautifully.
1. Hold the hair wash!
We know it’s tempting, but try to wait at least 48 hours after your colour service before washing your hair. Even just an extra day between washes can make a big difference.
Between appointments, aim to stretch out the time between full colour services. A good dry shampoo designed for coloured hair can help absorb oils and keep your hair looking fresh without the need to wash it too often.
2. Use the good stuff!
Using the right shampoo and conditioner is vital to stop your colour from fading.
Professional shampoos contain far fewer sulphates than most high street brands. We highly recommend Kalona, which offers a sulphate-free option—and yes, we stock it in salon if you’d like to try it!
Sulphates (which contain salt) can strip moisture from your hair, and moisture loss is one of the main causes of colour fading.
3. Moisture is key!
Treat your hair regularly with masks or deep conditioning treatments. Keeping your hair healthy and hydrated helps lock in your colour and keep that shine lasting longer.
We’re huge fans of Olaplex, which can be used either as a stand-alone treatment or added into your colour service for extra protection and strength.
4. Don’t fear the trim!
Even if you’re growing your hair, don’t skip those regular trims! Split ends create a dry, damaged base that doesn’t absorb colour evenly—leaving patchy or faded results.
Keeping your ends healthy with regular cuts helps your colour look fresher, more even, and longer-lasting.
5. Too hot in here!
Heat is the enemy of colour-treated hair. Using styling tools that are too hot can dull your colour, flatten shine, and even make blonde shades appear brassy.
The sun is no better—it can burn your hair just like your skin. Try lowering the temperature of your styling tools and always use a heat protector with UVA/UVB protection to shield your strands from damage.
Looking after your colour doesn’t have to be complicated—with the right habits and a little help from the pros, you can keep your colour gorgeous between visits.
